Welcome to the mCity project website! Fully Mobile City Government (mCity
for short) is a project of the
Center for Human-Information Interaction
(CHII). We are part of the Information School of University of Washington
(UW).

The business of government is moving into the business
of digital governments. Digital Government (DG) is aimed at making
government more citizen-centric, productive, accountable and also
more effective and efficient in its internal operations. Wireless
services and the emerging mobile Internet provide important
technological means towards that end. This rapidly emerging
environment focused the attention of information scientists from the
UW on the new challenges this creates for the governmental
organization. |
Researchers from the University of Washington Information School
received a grant of $498,000 from the National Science Foundation for a
three-year study of the use of wireless and mobile technology in Seattle
City Government.
Under this grant, the researchers at the Information School will study
Seattle City Government fieldwork, in which fully mobile, wirelessly
connected (FMWC) applications are already being used or will be used.
Seattle Public Utilities will serve as
the case in point. Given this specific work context, the study is geared at
uncovering the choices, potential uses, constraints, and opportunities of
mobile applications.
