iSchool Hiring Process for Guest Faculty

Crystal Yost, Assistant HR Manager, administers hiring of guest faculty at the iSchool. She may have already been in touch with you regarding the process. Information and forms related to hiring guest faculty are on the Guest Faculty HR page.

UW Faculty Handbook

To gain an understanding of the different categories of faculty appointments and the expectations of you as an educator here at the University of Washington, see the relevant faculty handbook section at http:www.washington.edu/faculty/facsenate/handbook/02-02-24.html#anchor24-34

iSchool Directory

The iSchool maintains a faculty and staff directory with photos and brief biographies. Your background and experience is of interest to students, particularly when they are evaluating courses for upcoming registration periods. Please submit a short biography to Crystal Yost for posting and to arrange for an accompanying photograph.

Office Hours / Office Space

As part-time faculty, you are expected to have at least one office hour scheduled each week. This is time that students know you will be available for consultation. It is also helpful to include this information on your faculty web page.

Room 330K Mary Gates Hall is currently available for guest faculty on a first-come, first-served reservation basis.  Please contact Ann Warner Smith to schedule your preferred time.

Mailboxes

Faculty mailboxes are near the reception desk on the 3rd floor, outside the supply/copier room. Guest faculty are provided folders in the file cabinet just inside the Dean's suite, MGH 370.

UW NetID

A UW NetID is necessary to access the faculty servers, view online course information, set up course listservs, access the UW Library Gateway and log on to MyUW. For additional information about the UW NetID and to set up a new UW NetID account, go to http://www.washington.edu /computing/uwnetid/.

UW Email

You create your UW email account at the same time that you set up your UW NetID. The process gives you several options to set up access to your email account. Your email address will be yourUWNetID@uw.edu.

Payday

Faculty are paid twice each month, on the 10th and the 25th. Paychecks are issued on a lagged schedule, approximately 10 days after the end of the pay period. If you opt for a paper paycheck, it will be placed in your mailbox on payday. To make special arrangements for receipt of your check (e.g. direct deposit, home mail delivery), see Crystal Yost.  Click here to reach the UW Faculty/Staff Payroll Guide.

If payday falls on a Saturday, you will be paid on Friday. If payday falls on a Sunday, you will be paid the following Monday.  If the Monday is a holiday, you will be paid on the preceding Friday.
