iSchool Graduate Assistants
Part-time faculty teaching graduate classes receive the help of graduate assistants from the GA Crew. A GA can help with: literature reviews, web development, setting up eReserves and Catalyst tools, transcription, ordering books, searches, and retrieving books from the library. Jan Boyd coordinates the GA Crew. Please email gahelp@uw.edu and Jan will put an available GA in touch with you. If you are teaching an Informatics course and are assigned a Teaching Assistant, contact Crystal Yost for information about your TA.
Library
The UW Library Gateway is found at http://www.lib.washington.edu/. Information about all the libraries, their collections and resources, plus access to online databases are provided through this link. Some online resources may not be accessible without a UW NetID.
Accessing the library from off-campus
On many of the library web pages, there is a box outlined in red in the upper right corner that has a picture of a padlock and the words: "off-campus access (login)." Generally, once you are logged in through MyUW, you can access many of the UW Libraries’ databases. For more information see the library instructions.
Curriculum Support
Nancy Huling, head of Suzzallo Reference & Research Services, is the iSchool's contact for assistance in collection development to support your area of expertise.
Proxy Library Cards
Faculty may designate one or more people as proxies, who will be issued cards allowing them to check out materials for the faculty member. Applications for proxy cards are available from the Suzzallo Library circulation desk, the library cashier, or online. Faculty are urged to designate proxies cautiously, as the faculty member—not the proxy—is responsible for any fines or charges accrued on the card.

All programs have required courses, referred to as core courses in all iSchool communications. For the masters programs, the curriculum is constructed in "decades" (50x, 51x, 52x etc. course numbers). The core classes are the 500, 510, 520 etc. courses that launch each decade. Core courses focus on concepts, processes, models, theory and research, using skills and practice as exemplars to illustrate concepts. A selection of elective courses are provided in each program allowing students to pursue areas of interest to gain further experience and practice, building upon their core class work.
To gain an overall understanding of the program in which you are teaching, please follow the program links above. You may also contact the Program Chair(s) to provide context and answer specific questions. Course descriptions are located at http://www.ischool.washington.edu/courses/descriptions.aspx.
iSchool Equipment
If you would like to use the computers in the iSchool computer labs, log on to the NETID domain with "netid\UW_NetID" where "UW_NetID" is your own UW_NetID. You can log on to the ISCHOOL (ischool\iSchool_ID) domain if you have an iSchool account; not all guest faculty have or need iSchool accounts.
If you have a temporary need for a laptop or a portable projector, the iSchool has limited equipment available for checkout. Please contact Ann Warner Smith to arrange for use.
For information on equipment that is available in your classroom, please see Classroom Support Services.
