Classes of Metadata Elements
In the work at Kattemingga, it was important for the participants to distinguish among the following classes of metadata elements (in descending order of interoperability):
- DC-Interoperability Elements/Qualifiers: Entities that are judged to be widely useful across disciplinesi.e., they are Core entities.
- DC-Domain Elements/Qualifiers: Entities that are judged to be useful within a domain, but perhaps not across domains.
- Common, But Local Elements/Qualifiers: Entities that are intended to be useful for local applications or in a constrained federation of applications, but, perhaps, not widely used even in a given domain.
