INFO 320Information Needs, Searching and PresentationYour First Sales!
The sun is shining and almost as soon as you open the front door, there are potential customers. Within minutes you have your first sales! It turns out that both of your new employees have surprising talents. Although Jorge doesn't know a tulip bulb from a turnip root, he is a major technie who takes one look at the computer in your office, drops his hoe and pulls the following two documents out of his dungerees.
Francoise's experience with "French Home Beauty" hasn't been a waste. She has a real talent for sales and when she turns in her daily sales records, you take her aside to ask her "Qu'est-ce c'est le secret?" It appears that she approaches her customers in terms of the color of walls, chairs, etc., and then suggests floral arrangements of complementary color. "Did you know that purple and gold are complementary colors?" "Well," you respond, "I am a UW Husky, but ..." About midday the truck from the Washington State Plant Registry (WSPR) shows up with your plant stock supplies. This means that you have a lot more inventory to sell, but it also means that you'll have to update your website. It looks like another big programming night! As your first day winds down, you decide to have a talk with your two employees and tell them what a great job they've done. You pour a cup of coffee for Jorge and Francoise and begin to give them a pep talk, but they cut you short. "You need to organize your website by color," says Francoise, and then Jorge adds, "and drop the accounting data into a database." Immediate Action Items
You certainly would be glad to help Francoise get a grip on XML, but you realize that you have a lot of work to do. "I'll explain tomorrow", you say, "I have a paper napkin around here someplace that lays it all out." Deliverables |
